HAPPENING NOW: TD Bank shut down by protestors in DC protesting Keystone XL

Press Release

TD BANK LOCATION IN WASHINGTON DC SHUT DOWN AS PROTESTORS LOCK DOWN

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A group of protestors have shut down the TD bank location at 1489 P Street Northwest in Washington, D.C, demanding that they divest from Transcanda, the company behind the controversial Keystone XL pipeline which would bring Tar Sands Oil across the United States from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

The protestors arrived today at 4:45 A.M. Two of them are locked to a large object in the Bank’s ATM vestibule, blocking entrance to the bank itself, and another protestor has fastened himself to the doors of the bank, blocking access to the ATM vestibule.

Outside, a group of protestors will be gathering all morning to chant slogans against the Keystone pipeline and hand out fliers about TD Bank’s significant financial stake in Transcanada.
The action is part of a nationwide week of actions being staged in solidarity with the Tar Sands Blockade, a group of individuals who have been actively obstructing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

"We are here to draw attention to the fact that TD Bank is the largest financier of Tar Sands Oil, which poses an immense threat to the environment, the economy, and the health of the American people," said protestor Eli Greer, whose neck is locked to the front doors of TD bank, blocking entrance.
The protestors will be on site until 6:00 PM.
